02/07/2007 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a former onion farm in Commerce City. The work was done in accordance with the ASTM "all appropriate inquiry" procedure.

01/30/2007 - awarded contract to perform ground-water, explosive gas and other environmental monitoring in the 2007 calendar year at the Denver Regional Landfill.

01/03/2007 - established the presence of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil beneath an automotive service building, presumably the result of leakage for hydraulic lifts that had been removed in 1996. The contaminated soils were removed for disposal at a municipal solid waste landfill. Clean backfill (road base) was trucked to the site and compacted into the excavation. After completion of the backfill, the soils immediately under the new fill were sampled and petroleum hydrocarbons were not detectable.

12/04/2006 - awarded contract to develop a stormwater management plan for Johnson Storage & Moving.

03/07/2006 - evaluated environmental conditions, well water quality and potential treatment technologies at an up-scale development in the foothills.

10/01/2006 - successfully permitted six monitoring wells at a waste disposal site that had been drilled in 2000 by others without permits.

08/16/2006 - installed four temporary gas probes at a property within the flammable gas overlay district in Adams County. The probes contained fairly high explosive gas concentrations and a positive pressure sub-slab ventilation system was designed for the proposed building.

07/10/2006 - drilled eight borings to fully penetrate the gravel along the South Platte River downstream from Henderson. Gravel volume estimates were prepared.

06/27/2006 - evaluted environmental conditions at an office/warehouse complex in Montbello and a former gasoline retail facility in Lakewood.

06/01/2006 - reviewed conditions, site design and operational practices at the Fountain Landfill for Classic Consulting. The client recently purchased a large tract adjacent to the landfill and is trying to design the development such that the impacts of the landfill are minimized.

05/16/2006 - awarded contract to perform ground-water and explosive gas monitoring at the Sedalia Landfill, for Waste Connections of Colorado, Inc.

03/27/2006 - began working on site remediated under a state-issued RCRA compliance order. The new owners are trying to understand the status of the cleanup, the extent of residual contamination, and the implications of these matters on the re-sale value of the property.

03/07/2006 - provided advice relative to potential environmental liabilities associated with a former truck sales and service facility in Commerce City, Colorado. In addition to issues associated with a former underground storage tank fueling system, the property is underlain by solvent contaminated ground-water emanating from the Chemical Sales NPL site.

03/02/2006 - awarded contract to perform environmental monitoring at the closed Templeton Gap Landfill in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

02/22/2006 - awarded contract to develop the design for a gas migration control structure at the Stapleton redevelopment (Stapleton was the major airport for the Denver area prior to the construction of the Denver International Airport). The soil at Stapleton contains ethylene glycol as a result of de-icing operations. Methane is produced as a by-product of ethylene glycol degradation and concentrations in the subsurface exceed 50 percent by volume in some areas. The barrier will consist of a cuspated 30 mil HDPE membrane with an attached 6 ounce geotextile. Perforated PVC extraction pipes will be in contact with the geotextile on 50 foot centers along the barrier. The pipes will be topped with turbine ventilators to increase the exhausting capacity of the system.

01/31/2006 - awarded contract to continue environmental monitoring at the Denver Regional Landfill for Waste Connections, Inc.

01/28/2006 - provided advice relative to environmental liabilities associated with a former gas station property. In addition to issues related to the fueling operation, the property is located downgradient of the Lowry Airbase, which is currently being redeveloped as a mixed-use facility. There are at least two ground-water contamination plumes associated with the former airbase (primarily TCE contamination); however, the plumes do not extend beneath the property in question. We successfully obtained a no further action required letter from the Division of Oil & Public Safety relative to residual soil contamination associated with the used oil tank (the only DOPS issue that was previously unresolved).

01/11/2006 - prepared a spill prevention, contol and countermeaure (SPCC) plan for a private golf club in the southwest Denver metropolitan area.

12/15/2005 - expedited the installation of a radiation detector at the Sedalia Landfill, south of Denver.

12/09/2005 - prepared a stormwater management plan for a municipal solid waste transfer facility in the southeast Denver metropolitan area.

11/28/2005 - prepared a spill prevention, contol and countermeaure (SPCC) plan for the Sedalia Landfill south of the Denver metropolitan area.

10/31/2005 - provided advice relative to environmental conditions on a parcel northeast of Denver. Ultimately, we discovered that the property had been used as a motel with retail fuel sales from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. As we suspected, the fuel tanks were still in-place. When the tanks were removed from beneath the fueling island, soil contamination was discovered. Contaminated soils were hauled for disposal at a municipal solid waste landfill and clean materials imported for use as backfill. Ultimately, we showed to the satisfaction of the Division of Oil & Public Safety that the soil contamination was of limited extent and successfully obtained a finding that no further action was required from them.

10/10/2005 - provided advice to a metropolitan park & recreation district relative to environmental conditions on a property on the South Platte River in Littleton, Colorado.

09/01/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of a multi-tenant industrial property in the Denver metropolitan area.

08/08/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of an industrial building in Greeley, Colorado, that had been used for manufacturing mobile homes and the assembly and shipping of various consumer products.

08/01/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of a 50 year old foundry in an industrial area of Denver.

07/30/2005 - awarded to contract to develop permit application documents for a landfill gas fired liquid industrial waste treatment facility.

07/21/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of an industrial property north of Broomfield, in Boulder County, Colorado. In addition, samples were collected from an on-site sewage disposal facility and from the drinking water well.

07/06/2005 - purchased and installed a new downhole pressure transducer for a deep leachate collection sump at the Denver Regional Landfill.

06/29/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of vacant land in Lafayette, Colorado. Because of concerns relative to past uses of the property, we also investigated subsurface conditions by drilling four borings.

05/25/2005 - awarded contract to develop a ground-water monitoring plan to protect the water supply of a guest ranch near a historic mining district in the Rockies of southern Colorado.

05/21/2005 - prepared an environmental assessment of vacant ground in the Inverness Business Park in the south Denver metropolitan area. We also developed estimates of earthwork quantities for various site grading plans.

05/16/2005 - prepared a complete redesign of a solid waste disposal facility already permitted as a power plant combustion ash disposal site. The design includes a composite clay and synthetic liner, with an overlying leachate collection system. The cover will consist of a thick evapo-transpirative layer. A fairly substantial diversion structure is designed to convey the 100-year storm event around the facility. The operations plan includes programs for operational and post-closure monitoring of ground water, explosive gas and appurtenant structures.

05/03/2005 - awarded contract to develop landfill volume estimates for the Pitkin County Landfill (Aspen, Colorado).

04/21/2005 - prepared a spill prevention, contol and countermeaure (SPCC) plan for a trucking operation in the Denver metropolitan area.

04/01/2005 - installed a stand-alone air system to drive the pneumatic pumps in a ground-water pump & treat system on weekends when house air is not available.

03/28/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of raw ground near Fort Lupton, Colorado.

01/05/2005 - performed an environmental assessment of an older commercial property. In the process, we discovered that the property was used for on-site dry cleaning from the 1920s through the early 1960s.

11/22/2004 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a 138,000 square foot building in Aurora, Colorado. The facility was first used for assembly of the princess telephone and later for telephone operations, including a call center. Asbestos pipe insulation was removed in the mid-1990s; asbestos containing floor tile and mastic remains in place.

11/17/2004 - became one of several firms prequalified to provide environmental assessments to Jefferson County, Colorado.

11/11/2004 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a vacant parcel of ground south of the Eagle County Airport (Town of Gypsum, Colorado).

10/21/2004 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a shop and yard currently used by a highway construction company in Golden, Colorado. The property was previously used for experimental mineral processing.

10/20/2004 - identified the source of a 20 gallon per minute inflow to the basement at a manufacturing facility. Based on major ion, metal, trihalomethane and haloacetic acids analyses, it was determined that the water entering the basement was a treated surface water (rather than ground water) and a leak in a major water distribution line was then identified.

10/06/2004 - prepared a Phase I environmental assessment of a new retail facility on Highway 6 east of the Eagle County Airport (Town of Gypsum, Colorado).

09/07/2004 - prepared a request for no further action under Colorado's voluntary cleanup program (VCUP) for a major manufacturing facility. The site has been used continuously since the late 1960s and past operational practices resulted in the release of chlorinated solvents (principally 1,1,1-trichloroethane) to the subsurface. The remedy consisted of soil vapor extraction coupled with depression of the water table. Migration of residual concentrations in the saturated zone is controlled by a pump-and-treat system.

08/15/2004 - prepared a stormwater management plan (SWMP) and stormwater permit application for a farming implement manufacturing operation.

08/05/2004 - evaluated potential liabilities associated with the purchase of a former truck leasing facility. The site is lightly contaminated with diesel fuel, apparently from a dispenser leak.

07/01/2004 - providing expert opinions in a breach of contract lawsuit involving regulatory compliance issues.

06/28/2004 - performed a preliminary environmental review of a closed service station in old town Englewood, Colorado.

06/01/2004 - prepared an application to renew the air pollutant emission notice (APEN) for the closed Longmont Landfill. An APEN is required because emissions of certain key volatile compounds are above the de minimis levels even though the landfill is closed and gas generation is decreasing. It is expected that an APEN will be required for at least another twenty years.

05/19/2004 - performed an environmental database search and preliminary inspection of a large scale dairy operation.

04/26/2004 - inspected a former Handy Dan property for a potential purchaser. Also prepared a letter documenting damage caused by sub-floor settlement and the possible presence of asbestos-containing floor tile.

04/15/2004 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a vacant parcel of ground near Golden, Colorado. The property had been strip mined for clay in the 1920s. In addition, as much as 40 feet of soil was removed for use as highway construction fill and a small portion of the site had been used for disposal of concrete truck washout.

03/25/2004 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a former construction equipment storage yard near Edwards, Colorado.

03/18/2004 - began serving as a technical expert in a legal dispute over the value of landfill airspace. As part of the effort, we developed a simple geometric method for sizing a balanced cut and fill landfill.

02/04/2004 - awarded contract to develop conceptual level remedial design and cost estimate for remediation of gun club.

02/04/2004 - prepared a Phase I environmental assessment of three parcels on top of South Table Mountain, near Golden, Colorado. One of the parcels has been extensively quarried since the 1930s.

01/16/2004 - awarded contract to continue environmental monitoring at the Denver Regional Landfill for Waste Connections.

01/15/2004 - provided senior-level review of the hydraulic and transport modeling performed in support of the tank closure environmental impact statement at the Hanford site.

12/12/2003 - provided a Phase I environmental assessment of a condominium at the Beaver Creek ski resort.

12/01/2003 - prepared a Phase I environmental assessment of a previously undeveloped parcel near Bailey, Park County, Colorado.

11/18/2003 - began preparation of a design and operations plan for a tire monofill in rural Colorado. The plan will comply with the new tire disposal regulations, including mosquito population monitoring.

11/04/2003 - set up a double blind quality control test of multiple laboratories to qualify them for performing water quality analyses for a major industrial client. Analyses were performed of a real wastewater sample as well as control samples purchased from a vendor.

07/22/2003 - evaluated the current regulatory requirements for a closed construction and demolition debris landfill near Brighton, Colorado. The facility operated in the mid-1980s and was closed in compliance with the regulations in effect at the time. After completion of a ten year post-closure care period, neither the County nor the State have any further applicable regulations (assuming that environmental problems do not develop in the future). Recommendations were provided to the owner on methods to limit unauthorized site access and on appropriate considerations for future development.

06/23/2003 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a restaurant property (formerly in residential use) near Golden, Colorado. The research revealed that the property is over an orphan tetrachloroethene (PCE) plume. Ground-water concentrations beneath the property are in the 30 micrograms per liter (ug/L) range.

05/22/2003 - evaluated a Phase I environmental assessment performed by consultants to the owner for the buyer of a parcel of ground in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Also evaluated potential slope instability based on aerial photography and geologic reports.

04/03/2003 - awarded contract to prepare volume estimates for the Pitkin County Landfill near Aspen, Colorado.

03/27/2003 - developed estimates of gravel quantities sterilized by a natural gas well on a gravel mining property for a legal dispute involving associated damages.

01/27/2003 - developed an expert opinion regarding likely impacts of a gravel pit and perimeter slurry wall on a shallow irrigation well completed in the South Platte River alluvium.

01/22/2003 - awarded contract with the State of Colorado through the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) to characterize explosive gas conditions at the closed Templeton Gap Landfill in El Paso County (Colorado Springs). The project also involves testing of an existing but abandoned active extraction system, as well as costing of other potential control measures, should they be necessary.

01/07/2003 - provided assistance in the preparation of a stormwater management plan for the brewing operation at the Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado.

01/02/2003 - awarded contract to continue routine ground-water and explosive gas monitoring for the 2003 calendar year at the Denver Regional Landfill.

12/04/2002 - began a project to characterize landfill gas condensate to support on-site spraying of the fluid.

11/14/2002 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a former greenhouse operation near Arvada, Colorado. The property is in an industrially developed area; many of the adjoining properties are former gravel pits that have been backfilled with demolition debris and other inert materials.

08/09/2002 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a shop facility in Vail, Colorado. The subject property is adjacent to a retail gasoline sales operation that has been plagued with underground storage tank leaks. Remediation of these releases included operation of an air sparge and soil vapor extraction system on the subject property.

07/30/2002 - awarded new contract to continue environmental monitoring at the closed Longmont Landfill. This is essentially an extension of the contract originally awarded in April 1999. To date, we have reduced both the frequency of ground-water monitoring and the length of the analyte list. The overall goal, of course, is to take the facility out of the post-closure period.

07/17/2002 - began project to support a construction in the vicinity of 1,1,1-trichloroethane contaminated soil. Work includes characterization of materials excavated for foundation construction, as well as the abandonment and replacement of a monitoring well. Well construction involves the use of down-hole hammer casing advancer technology in order to penetrate and stabilize the gravelly cobble materials in the subsurface.

07/15/2002 - awarded contract to develop remedial alternatives for a supply well impacted by low levels of trichloroethene.

07/10/2002 - awarded contract to prepare four SPCCs (Denver Regional Landfill, Summit County Landfill, Town & Country waste hauling operation, and Waste Connections waste hauling operation).

06/14/2002 - prepared an SPCC for a cardboard box manufacturing facility (Inland Paperboard).

06/13/2002 - Base Agreement received from the Colorado State Buildings and Real Estate Programs for as-needed services in all five regions. Services include civil, environmental and geotechnical engineering.

06/01/2002 - prepared a soils report for review by Weld County for a cistern toilet system to be constructed as part of the re-development of a closed landfill into an archery recreational facility.

03/24/2002 - moved our offices to a new facility in the same area north of Golden, Colorado. This was our first move since 1991.

02/15/2002 - began routine ground-water and explosive gas monitoring at the Denver Regional Landfill for the year 2002.

01/10/2002 - awarded contract to prepare a request for a no-further-action-required determination from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) under their voluntary cleanup program (VCUP) for a major aluminum manufacturing facility.

12/22/2001 - provided employee training on SPCC and stormwater management plans for an operating landfill.

12/15/2001 - completed sixteen passive methane vents (4-inch diameter HDPE) in 24-inch diameter drill holes at two closed landfills. The vents are equipped with turbine ventilators to increase gas flow and normally-closed quick connect fittings for monitoring purposes.

12/08/2001 - developed a cost estimate for landfill airspace valuation considering operating costs, closure/post-closure accruals, taxes and operating margin.

11/05/2001 - installed two new explosive gas performance monitoring probes near a closed landfill. The probes are intended to monitor the performance of a passive venting system installed earlier.

07/19/2001 - began work on detailed design of final grades and surface water control structures for a closed landfill in the Denver area. Surface water control structures include two detention ponds, several culverts and four riprapped downspouts.

07/10/2001 - prepared a spill prevention, control and countermeasures (SPCC) plan for an operating landfill.

06/08/2001 - supervised the cleanout of a sand trap and associated drain lines for the property owner at an automotive repair shop. Years of neglect resulted in an overflow of oily waste water that was discovered by the local health department.

06/01/2001 - began work on estimating various landfill volumes (including remaining capacity and soil availability) for the Pitkin County Landfill. 06/01/2001 - successfully demonstrated that confirmed statistical increases of certain metals in ground-water monitoring data were the result of natural processes, rather than a release from the municipal solid waste disposal unit.

05/23/2001 - began operating a dual-phase vapor extraction system intended to control and remediate a subsurface tetrachloroethene (PCE) plume in ground water associated with a small dry cleaning operation. Off-gases are treated with granular activated carbon (GAC) and fluids are air-stripped in a small tray system.

04/12/2001 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment consistent with the ASTM procedure for a commercial property original developed in the late 1800s in downtown Golden.

04/04/2001 - prepared a stormwater management plan to comply with the State of Colorado stormwater regulations for a municipal solid waste hauling operation.

03/21/2001 - prepared a grading plan for a closed municipal solid waste disposal facility to meet state regulatory slope requirements. Also designed buried conduits for surface water control, including inlet and outlet structures (grouted rip rap energy dissipation).

03/16/2001 - developed an SPCC for a municipal solid waste transfer station. On-site activities include fueling and mobile equipment maintenance. Also prepared a SARA Title III filing for the operation.

03/09/2001 - performed a Phase I environmental assessment of a retail and knife manufacturing facility. The property was previously used for mineral processing research and development.

02/09/2001 - reviewed and certified an SPCC for a rail tank car cleaning facility.

12/15/2000 - commenced a bio-stimulation project using a yeasty waste liquid to promote anaerobic degradation of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and its degradation products in a shallow ground-water system. The injection fluid is spiked with bromide to aid detection of the injection fluid in two downgradient wells being monitored. Injection is achieved using an inexpensive in-house designed timing circuit and a peristaltic pump.

11/01/2000 - awarded contract to perform an environmental assessment of a 20 acre parcel south of Castle Rock, Colorado. The property has been used for residential and agricultural purposes for many years. The buyer was not required to perform a formal Phase I assessment and wanted a simple inspection to ascertain the presence of possible environmental degradation. Our inspection found an open dump on a neighboring property, from which material was being transported via surface water onto the subject property, as well as numerous old tires in the floodplain of Plum Creek.

10/17/2000 - awarded contract to perform two Phase I environmental assessments of properties near the closed County Line Landfill in the south Denver metropolitan area. The properties are part of a block being assembled by the South Suburban Park & Recreation District for development as a playing field complex. The fields themselves will be located on the landfill, which we characterized previously.

10/15/2000 - awarded contract to prepare an operations plan for an existing transfer station in the south Denver metropolitan area.

10/10/2000 - awarded contract to evaluate appropriate disposal options for alum residuals from the City of Aspen potable water treatment plant. Landfilling and incorporation into a composting operation are both being considered.

09/15/2000 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a 16 acre parcel of ground including two buildings, north of Golden, Colorado. The site was mined in the early 1900s for coal production from underground workings and for clay in the mid-1950s from open cuts.

09/01/2000 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a 27 acre parcel of ground that will ultimately form part of the right-of-way for the new suburban beltway, near Golden, Colorado. The property was originally used for brick manufacturing. More recently, it was used as a construction maintenance yard and Portland cement concrete batch plant.

07/27/2000 - awarded contract to provide geohydrologic characterization of a proposed composting facility, as well as to design a mixing pad.

07/06/2000 - awarded contract to assist the property owner with solid waste engineering services in his effort to settle an adminstrative action brought by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and a lawsuit brought by the former operator of the facility. The work involves development of final grading plans (including a demonstration of the practicability of an alternative cover), ground-water monitoring and explosive gas control.

06/27/2000 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a parcel of ground on the proposed alignment of W-470 near Golden, Colorado. Past operations on the parcel include a brick manufacturing operation, a cement batch plant, several open pit and underground mines and a heavy equipment maintenance shop.

05/04/2000 - awarded contract to design and install 6 passive methane vents to protect a neighboring development at a closed municipal solid waste landfill.

04/10/2000 - awarded contract to review documentation information and organize the operating record at the office of an operating municipal solid waste landfill.

03/22/2000 - awarded contract to provide quarterly explosive gas and semi-annual ground-water monitoring at the Denver Regional Landfill. Project includes calibration of continuous explosive gas detectors in the office and cashier building, as well as calibration of the radiation detector at the gate.

02/07/2000 - began review of draft Wyoming surface water regulations for a law firm representing a major industrial client.

01/13/2000 - client requests that we prepare a professional opinion letter discussing the need for further investigation and remedial action at a facility contaminated by the casual dumping of small quantities of 1,1,1-trichloroethane. This opinion is expected to provide a similar level of comfort to interested parties as a determination of no-further-action required under Colorado's voluntary cleanup program.

01/10/2000 - engaged to develop remedial plans for excessive leakage from an off-channel reservoir. The reservoir is part of a new effort by the City of Greeley to irrigate parks and schools with untreated water. Ultimately, leakage was found to be entering a sand and gravel body that was ineffectively lined during construction.

12/30/1999 - awarded contract to perform a Phase I environmental assessment of a 16 acre parcel located adjacent to a closed municipal solid waste landfill.

12/15/1999 - retained by a long term client to investigate conditions at a closed printed circuit board manufacturing facility.

11/15/1999 - provided emergency consulting regarding large inflows of benzene contaminated ground water hampering a utility boring project for the City of Broomfield. Because the site is governed by a corrective action plan in accordance with the underground storage tank regulations, the water is not hazardous by characteristics and can be treated by the City prior to discharge to the POTW.

11/08/1999 - awarded contract to characterize conditions and evaluate potential liabilities associated with the closed County Line Landfill near Denver, Colorado. Assuming that liabilities can be appropriately managed, the South Suburban Parks & Recreation District will take ownership of the facility for development as a ballpark complex.

Evaluation included a re-calculation of pre-1997 volumes and concluded that the facility is exempt from the regulations on the basis of refuse mass in-place.

08/04/1999 - as an add-on to the existing contract, provided an estimate of inplace refuse volume using final design drawings and the USGS quad sheet prepared prior to the commencement of filling.
