Company Profile

Since the founding of the company in 1986, the nature of our work has been driven by the needs of our clients.

  • In the late 1980s and early 1990s, our work was roughly equally divided between municipal solid waste disposal issues and RCRA/CERCLA actions. Most of our municipal solid waste work was performed for Laidlaw Waste Systems (now Allied Waste Industries), although we also worked with BFI, Waste Management, Rockwell International and the City of Aurora on waste disposal matters. This work involved site characterization efforts, routine ground-water monitoring and the design and operation of ground-water containment systems. Our RCRA/CERCLA work was largely performed at the Rocky Flats Site; however, we were also involved in projects at many other industrial facilities. This work involved extensive hydraulic calculations, flow modeling and the design of ground-water containment systems.
  • In the mid-1990s, we continued our work at municipal solid waste disposal sites, adding expertise in statistical evaluation of monitoring data and in the development and control of explosive gas. We also began preparing SPCC and stormwater management plans. We continued preparing Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments for property owners and began developing estimates of potential environmental liability for various developers.
  • In the late-1990s, work at solid waste disposal sites continued to constitute a large portion of our business. We also added a major manufacturer as one of our clients. This new work involved operation and optimization of several remedial systems, including ground-water pump and treat, soil vapor extraction, air-sparge, bioventing and ground-water containment. Our overall goal was to achieve closure of multiple sites identified in the early 1990s, which we have done by the submittal of voluntary clean-up applications and the preparation of expert opinion reports. During this period, we continued to provide Phase I and II environmental assessments and also served as experts in two legal proceedings involving contaminated ground water and appropriate remedial action. In the course of this work, we developed expertise in data validation, in geographic information system (GIS) data management, and in remedial system design, operation and decommissioning.
  • In the early 2000s, we continued our work at solid waste disposal and manufacturing sites. Our expertise in GIS, database management and statistical evaluation expanded as we applied these tools to more sites. We added expertise in dual-phase extraction by operating a system at a former dry cleaning site. We continued preparing Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments for property owners, estimating volumes for landfill operations and were involved in a landfill valuation project. Of course, we have continued to provide ground-water and explosive gas monitoring services to solid waste disposal facilities.
